Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa joined Constellation Place, LLC officials in unveiling the field of solar panels on the top level of the MGM Tower parking structure. “Because of companies like Constellation Place, LLC, the City of Los Angeles is setting the standard for a green, sustainable economy,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “Our green building program is bringing the private sector to the table to cut pollution and expand conservation.”“I’m pleased that MGM is able to support a green work environment which is also creating greater energy efficiencies,” said Harry E. Sloan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. “MGM has been committed to improving the studio’s environmental impact as well as the financial return and social good that comes with cleaner, greener work practices, and the installation of solar panels at our company’s headquarters building is certainly an important step toward that goal.”
Installed by SPG Solar, specialists in solar power construction, the field covers the top parking deck level at MGM Tower on Constellation Boulevard in Century City. The system has a total of 1,408 panels covering more than an acre. It is expected to generate 570,095, kWh annually and eliminate 277 metric tons of CO2 emissions, which is equivalent to 31,452 gallons of gasoline or 92 acres of trees.
